AUTOMATIC LESSONS
What should I consider when learning to drive in an Automatic?
It is a good question, so on this page we will explain the pros and cons of learning to drive and passing your test in an Automatic car.

An Automatic or "Auto" in simple terms, changes the gears for you, allowing the driver to focus on what is going on around them instead of changing gears. Driving an Automatic results in safer and less distracted driving, especially for new or inexperienced drivers. An automatic also has the advantage of not stalling at that critical moment (a big worry for some learners). Stalling isn’t necessarily a fail in your test as it really depends on where you stall and how you recover from the stall.
To help you decide if an auto is for you, first ask yourself how engaging you want to be with your driving and what sort of driving you are likely to do?
If you live and/or travel in a city, by the nature of city driving you will experience what is known as "stop start driving" whereby you are regularly having to stop and move off again in traffic, you will be pushing a clutch down and selecting an appropriate gear in a manual car, whereas in an automatic the car will do all that work for you, making your city driving less of a grind so to speak, thus an automatic feels less of an effort to drive.

Automatics generally are more expensive to buy, but on the flip side when selling one, you won't lose as much money.
It used to be said that automatics were less fuel efficient, but a modern automatic is just as good as a manual if driven smoothly.

Manual transmissions are old technology, all that pulling and pushing levers, compared to putting it in drive and go!

WE ARE PLUGGED INTO THE FUTURE!
Electric vehicles or Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) are rapidly becoming very popular and are the way forward, not only from an environmental point of view being kinder to the world we live in, but also our health too.
So why are we mentioning them? Well, as it happens they are automatic!
In 2030 you will not be able to buy a new petrol or diesel car in the UK, as the UK Government is banning the sale of fossil fuelled cars, even new hybrids will be given a stay of execution until 2035, on the condition they are capable of covering a "significant distance" in zero-emission mode. After 2035, the only new cars and vans that can be sold will be pure electric ones or hydrogen-powered cars.
This is one of many reasons Driving 2ition has already started providing electric vehicles in its fleet of automatic training vehicles, not only are we being environmentally responsible, but it also seems the correct thing to do in relation to preparing our clients for the future with regards to driving.

Learning to drive in an Electric vehicle is fun, environmentally responsible, healthier, and definitely the way forward too.
Automatic driving lessons and the test can certainly be easier and often ultimately quicker to reach test standard than manual, although it is worth remembering that if you pass your test in an automatic then you are only licensed to drive automatics. You are not legally entitled to drive a manual transmission vehicle unless as a learner driver with supervising passenger. If you wish to start driving manual transmission vehicles, you will need to retake the driving test, which we can assist with.

Above all the most important thing is to choose what you feel most comfortable with.
